My Physics 772 Project - A Particle Shower Simulator

For my PHYS 772 (Intro to High Energy Astrophysics) project this year was to characterize the transmission of high energy gamma rays through long intergalactic distances, and specially characterizing the effect the existence of a Intergalactic Magnetic Field (IGMF) it would have. My simulation codes for photon-photon pair creation, and for inverse Compton scattering, and it also generates Synchrotron photons. Check out my work in my final paper for the class.

Here’s a jet simulation I made with my script, adding it here because it is fun to play with. Green = injected photons; Red, Blue = positron, electron; Pink = IC photon. Synchrotron photons are omitted.

This was supposed to be an opinion piece I have been thinking in writing for the last 8 months. It’s a subject I think a lot about for years, and at about 8 months ago, Hank published this video on Vlogbrothers talking about the ways the Internet is similar to other Media Revolutions in how it makes some people empowered to use populism as a tool to manipulate masses against established institutions (sometimes for good but most times, things were more complicated than the populist messages). It also talks about the ways the Internet is absolutely different from those other Media Revolutions.
